Severance Middle School is a 109,000 sf new middle school designed to serve 600 students. Precast concrete panels were designed to accentuate the gymnasium using a circular form that replicated the crop formations that occur in the surrounding rural farming communities. Extensive daylighting and integral sun-shading devices were utilized throughout with dual-story solatubes in order to allow natural light into classroom spaces. The round, 2-story entry features a large metal wind vane created by a local artist. Local beetle-kill wood paneling and insulated SIPS panels were used throughout public spaces.
